Treat People the Way You Want to Be Treated and Your Efforts Will Not Go Unnoticed from Their Part Either

So, what do you have to do in case you wish to treat others as you want to be treated? What does it truly involve?

Crime and punishment

It is a natural reaction for people to punish those who do them wrong. However, in case you are wondering how to treat others, you should focus more on guiding them instead of making justice. The people who are trying to do others wrong have clearly lost their way and they need someone to show them that there is a better solution. Just think about how you would feel if someone did something of the sort to you. It may feel good for a while, but most probably you would regret it pretty soon.

Your words are heavy

When you are thinking about how to treat others as you would like to be treated, you should know that it’s not only about your actions, but about your words as well. It is common for people to tell a story in a way that is advantageous for them or that is amusing for the others. Although this may seem a good idea, you should stop and think: how would you feel if someone else said all those things about you? This also brings up the problem of gossip. For sure you know that it’s not nice to gossip. As a matter of fact, it’s not only that it’s not nice, but it can also turn out to be hurtful for the subject of the gossip.

Let your feelings go

How do you feel about the people around you? How would you like them to feel about you? If you want to treat people the way you want to be treated, you should also think about the feelings you have towards other people. For instance, you might be holding a grudge for something. How would you feel if someone held a grudge against you? You should listen to their side of the story and try to understand their point of view. There is no point in holding harsh feelings. Letting them go will do both you and the other person good and maybe you will be able to start over some day.

Thinking about people

You might think that nobody can judge you based on your inner thoughts. Although no other person can judge you, you could judge yourself. The way you think influences the way you act. In case you are thinking about how to treat others as you wish to be treated, you should know that it’s the thought that counts. You shouldn’t think about yourself that you are better than another person or that you are more valuable. If you think of someone less fortunate, you should be thinking about them out of love and not out of pity. Someday another person could also have pitiful thoughts about you too.

Respect the people around you

You can’t always understand or respect others, but you should make an effort to do so. It is proof of integrity if you can show compassion and respect for people even when you might think they don’t deserve it. You can’t know what they were thinking or feeling so you are in no position to judge them. You should treat others as you want to be treated even in the most awkward situations. There is no need to demolish their reputation or integrity just so that you could say all the things you wish to. Again, this could please you on the short-run, but will you be able to sleep at night? These are the kinds of things that could haunt you for years to come.

Your way might not be the best way

If you are working in a team and you have to come up with an idea, you shouldn’t think that an idea is bad simply because it’s not you who came up with it. Keep in mind that one can reach a destination in many different ways and your way may not be the only way. Learn to treat others with respect and remember that others can have good ideas too. Your prejudice might stop you from recognizing a solution that could solve all your problems. Give others some credit; for sure there are situations when you wish your ideas to be appreciated as well.

Try to understand people

Treating others with respect will become easier if you actually understand them. The actions of a person are usually driven by some kind of logic. There are very few people in this world who are driven by pure evil. If you understand their motives, you will understand their actions and you will understand them as a person. In our days nobody really has time for anything, but if you sacrifice your free time to listen to people and to understand them, you will find it easier to treat them with kindness. Passing them by on the street and uttering the word “stupid” won’t do anybody any good. Just give people a chance.

The way you treat people usually comes from your personality. However, personality is something that can be trained. You might not care what people think or how they feel, but if you just try thinking about how you would feel in a given situation, after a while it will come to you naturally. This is the best way to become a people-person.
